Crime statistics on the web and reported by police are useful, but they don’t help you to fully understand the state of crime in your neighborhood or the changes over time. San Francisco crime spotting is great website, which I drew inspiration from, for my iphone app concept, called “Crime Census”. This app would display crime reports from the NYPD and also crimes reported by users of the app. Both reports would contribute to a comparative rating system, that would show users which neighborhoods are better than others.
